Full Touchscreen Devices

Peripherals Kostis writes "An interesting idea! Instead of having a mobile phone with real buttons and a screen, make the whole screen the interface. Using the phone means touching the screen, rather than hitting buttons. The touchscreen changes dynamically in order to represent the current interface design. See the concept from Nokia here. Also look at the BenQ one here"

The Motorola A1200 "Ming" phone is like this, i've had one since November. It consists of a large LCD touch screen with no keypad. One thing I noticed is that it takes two hands to use - one to hold it, another to scroll around, or use the writing recognition. There's an onscreen keyboard that can be brought up but its so small it needs a stylus to be used reliably.

So when you're on the go, you need to stop and use 2 hands to pay attention to it. A traditional keypad can be used while walking since I find its possible to 'feel' the keys. Also keypads only take 1 hand to use that so you can be on a subway or bus and hold on to something while texting.

I had a Motorola A 920 a few years ago which is like this. I found it a bit clumsy to use since you can't feel the buttons and the screen gets smeared.

I'm not a robot like you. I don't like having disks crammed into me... unless they're Oreos, and then only in the mouth. -- Fry
