3D File System Visualizer For Mac OS
posted by Editor on Friday March 22, @06:17PM
Visual User Interfaces Several readers wrote in about a new 3D file system visualizer for Mac OS. R Allan Baruz reported it first: "This showed up in apple.slashdot.org a few days ago. The MacWarriors SIG of the UIUC chapter of the ACM has written a three-dimensional file navigator for Mac OS X, using a metaphor of platters, where each directory is represented by a floating lazy Susan of files to serve up." Klint adds: "It supports a full range of file system actions, such as copying, labeling, creating new folders, and ejecting disks. It requires OSX10.1 and an OpenGL enhanced video acceleration card. I suppose it's still technically a WIMP interface, but the screenshots are still stunning (even to a non-Mac addict like me). (Link found on bOING bOING)." andyed also says "While the presence of DOS in the name of this application is amusing, this shares little more than the command line with a DOS implementation. Using transparency and circular layouts, this app seems to mix fore- and background effectively, using the old pie menu concept to optimize mouse travel."

I'm not a robot like you. I don't like having disks crammed into me... unless they're Oreos, and then only in the mouth. -- Fry
