Mindflux writes: "Is efficiency in man/machine interfaces over-emphasized? After all, exactly how 'efficient' are virtual realities in conveying information and assisting in manipulation of the real world? However, there is an undeniable appeal to many seemingly inefficient interfaces. They have qualities that are much more difficult to quantify. One such example is Sony's PostPet, the amazingly inefficient email client which is part Tamagotchi cyber agent and part Eudora. Supposedly, this application has greatly increased email usage in Japan and other parts of the Pacific rim due to the fact that people like to use it. The underlying principles that are the reasons for this clearly point out that cold efficiency is not the only attribute to build into interfaces."
