Smart Money's Map Of The Stock Market
posted by Editor on Tuesday September 25, @08:32PM
Visual User Interfaces Smart Money provides a visual tool called Map of the Market that helps to explain what's going on in the stock market while trading is in progress. It is a Java applet that displays the current status of the entire stock market by dividing the screen into boxes representing industrial sectors. The boxes are color-coded depending on whether the stocks in that sector are going up or down. Red means investors are selling the stock. The deeper the red, the more the stocks have gone down. When you put your cursor on a box, the largest stock in the group will pop out and you can see where the stock closed, how much it moved from the previous close, and the percentage move.

The green is the where the money is going. The brightest green represents sectors and stocks that have moved more than 6 percent on the day. The duller green means the stocks have moved about 3 percent on the day. If you want more detail on the stock, clicking on the map will bring up a drop-down menu that shows a quote on the stock, news, a price chart, earnings and estimates, analysts recommendations, and financials on the company.

In the era of day trading, where many people make a living from capitalizing on minute changes in the market over short periods of time, it is only natural that user interfaces will evolve to facilitate rapid transactions more efficiently. Indeed, it should only be a matter of time before trading tools become just like video games (although the concept of "game over" will take on a lot more meaning when it refers to the expiration of your bank account).

sorry to post an inane comment, but this is just very cool.
