This article in New Scientist talks about a new wearable computer that Hitachi will introduce later this year for about $2,000. The Wearable Internet Appliance consists of a palm-sized computer and a head-mounted display that fits over one eye like half a pair of sunglasses and is equivalent to a virtual 13-inch monitor (see picture). A small handheld controller allows the user to scroll around the screen and make selections (here is a good FAQ about how the device is used). The system uses Hitachi's proprietary RISC processor and runs Microsoft's Windows CE operating system. In the US, it will be marketed by Xybernaut, one of the leading vendors of wearable computers.
