Ubiquitous Computing

User Interface Innovation Ubiquitous computing names the third wave in computing, just now beginning. First were mainframes, each shared by lots of people. Now we are in the personal computing era, person and machine staring uneasily at each other across the desktop. Next comes ubiquitous computing, or the age of calm technology, when technology recedes into the background of our lives. Alan Kay of Apple calls this "Third Paradigm" computing. Mark Weiser is the father of ubiquitous computing; his web page contains links to many papers on the topic.

Boys Charged With Wanton Endangerment (Score:0)

INDEPENDENCE, Ky., 11:44 a.m. EDT April 25, 2001 -- Two teenage boys from Greater Cincinnati are in hot water after a stunt aimed at getting them on a popular MTV show failed. One teen raced a car at the second teen, who was standing in the middle of a road in Northern Kentucky, according to Independence police officials. The boy in the path of the car was supposed to jump out of the way at the last second. However, he did not move in time, and the car slammed into him, police said. Video cameras inside the car and on the side of the road captured footage of the teen's body bouncing off of the car. The boy who was hit suffered a broken leg and internal injuries, according to a Cincinnati television station. Two teens, ages 16 and 17, who were in the car have been charged with wanton endangerment, which is a felony. Their names have not been released. The boys had hoped to use the tape to make an appearance on MTV's "Jackass," according to television reports. The show is known for its outlandish and often dangerous stunts.
