GLScube is a semantic storage system for Linux that represents data based on attributes, content, and relationships. It uses an advanced organization mechanism with fast data searching, while still maintaining compatibility with existing applications. Like other attempts at relational storage models, GLScube is designed to pull users away from thinking about where data resides, so that they instead focus on what the data contains. The semantic attributes of files are automatically extracted using developer-programmable importers, and are indexed so that they can be efficiently retrieved by user queries (using the Lucene engine). This paper describes the design of GLScube in detail, and the code can be downloaded here. There are also some Flash demos of the system in action.
