Argey writes "3D Topicscape is a tool that has just come out of Beta after some months of public testing. It uses an approach like concept mapping but gets round the size limitations of a 2D sheet by going to 3D. You can fly in a virtual landscape. You can take in much more at a glance like this, and although there is the usual word and phrase searching, the 3D environment lets users search by concept, flying to the subject of interest and drilling down. This is useful when you can't think of the keywords right then. This software also allows you to have multiple parents for a topic, and presents multiple instances of such topics (not copies) in the 3D scene. That's useful if you've ever want to keep a record of something in two places but worried about them getting out of step or breaking links.

3D Topicscape is useful for the first steps in planning projects, then for the research phase to gather and organize project materials and right through a project to keep track of the reference and description files. It has functions like one-click drags of favicons to make .MHT files, and a background queue for saving these files so that you can get on with surfing or working with a Topicscape while they download. But it can store any type of file under a topic, not just MHTML. It's already been used in many real-life projects and there are some user stories at http://www.topicscape.com/user-story/organizing-pr oject-plans.html; and http://www.topicscape.com/user-story/organizing-re ference-material.html. There are other stories about quite different uses, but all focus on planning and organizing information. There's also an animated demo at http://www.topicscape.com/onlineDemo.php. The trial version is full-featured and allows use for 60 days. It works on Windows only so far, but more platforms are planned for later.
