posted by Editor on Wednesday February 15, @12:30AM
User Interface Experts This article in ComputerWorld reports on the improvements to the XGL graphics subsystem in the new release of Novell Linux Desktop. The article quotes usability expert Jakob Nielsen that 3D desktop features show off graphical horsepower but are basically useless. I think its hard to call 3D useless unless you define what the goal is. 3D looking, 3D effects, and 3D user interface are different objectives. Overall, I think there has been too much hype out there around transparency so I'll be glad when we get past that.
